PIONEER FAMILIES

Many of the streets, bays, hills and headlands bear the names of the families that pioneered the farming, industry and commerce on Saanich Peninsula. Sidney has a rich heritage from those who gave so much to the community. While there are many names of historical significance represented in Sidney Museum, the following are a sample of the families that headed West, many via San Francisco to join the Gold Rush. Their experiences provide an insight to early days of the community.
